1. What’s the article about
The article was about how the government should not fund ‘obscene’ art. The author sees the contemporary art mostly as crazy people doing grotesque acts that make people think ‘what is this?’ Using an extreme example of an old performance art from 1990’s, the author tries to say that at this time period, anything can be called art. Concluding that the government shouldn’t continue to fund this craziness described as art, and the artists should be grateful that they are currently getting funded.
2. Personally, I disagree with that article, but having an opposing argument would be useful for my research essay. As for my topic, I want to talk somewhere along lines of ‘what counts as art these days’, and I think this is a really useful article to have for that topic, with good examples of what I think does still count as ‘contemporary art’
